We are Doreen & Gordon Scott, owners of the
MARKERRY Affix - A name derived from the names of our first two grandchildren
and granted by the Kennel Club in 1980. We are situated in Sedgefield,
12 miles from Durham City and 18 miles north of Middlesbrough and
Darlington, about 5 minutes drive off the A1 motorway.
Gordon has been in dogs all his life having trained working sheepdogs
at home on the farm and then trained gundogs on the grouse moors of
North East Scotland from where he originates. Although we purchased
our first GSD in 1969 - a sable dog who was a brilliant pet - it was
1980 before we entered the world of dog showing with the purchase
of two bitches (Chelmaray Glenda - Elkie, and Meadlodge Princess Kosme
- Zeta) Elkie, who we bought from Joan & Ray Smith, was a lovely
bitch. At the time we lived in Swainby N. Yorks and it was ideal (as
we then thought ) for walking Shepherds - lots of lovely big hills.
Consequently, not knowing any better, we walked the little legs off
her and she finished up like a young donkey. Her character was fabulous
and she gave us some lovely puppies. When Elkie died a bit of our
hearts went with her. We had some success with Zeta and a lot of fun
(sadly fun seems to be missing from the current show scene). One of
our best days with Zeta was in Scotland when she came second out of
48 bitches under Herr Rosenthal.
Our current lines started with the purchase of another two bitches
- Sirodcars Omega (Falk von Edelfor X Fairycross Sensation) and Gluckhaben
Diane (Ch Exl von Batu X Gluckhaben Atrice). Our sable lines come
from a daughter of Omega (Googie) and Ch Elsaville Artful Dodger who
was mated to Shercoz Bon Jovi, the black & golds from Ch Cotchees
Digger and Diane (Dizzy to her friends - Dizzy by name and Dizzy by
nature - what a character).
We have had some success in the show ring, having bred 5 Champ show
winners and owning two others. At Open shows we have had numerous
Best Puppies, Best Dog, Best Bitch and best of Breeds. We have homed
puppies who have gone onto success in agility and obedience as well
as several serving Prison dogs and we also have a bitch on a local
farm working as a trained sheep dog. Our show activities were curtailed
for some time because of our involvement with N Yorks & S Durham
GSD Club (Gordon as Chairman and Doreen as Secretary) positions we
held for approx 20 years and after a break of 3 years have once again
taken up. We are currently showing Markerry Kandice (Demi) and Markerry
Talina (Tally) with some success. We have two puppy dogs (Taverner
and Skeetz ) waiting in the wings along with their sister Terri (owned
by Linda & Gary Stockton) and are looking forward to next years
showing.
